Otoplasty – ear pinning

This 28 year-old woman underwent otoplasty as an office procedure to correct prominent ears, more on the right.

Otoplasty is done to correct protruding ears, most often by age six, to minimize psychological problems. Many patients present as adults for this procedure. For adults, the procedure is done in the office operating room using local anesthetic and oral sedation. Children require general anesthesia, and anxious adolescents may also need general anesthesia.

The procedure done depends on the degree of protrusion, asymmetry and cartilage modification required. This is an exacting procedure to get the new ear folds just right with smooth surfaces and the right balance between the upper and lower ear silhouette.
